Gold Pans

Purpose

The purpose of the Gold Pans is to recognize chapters within Section 4 for exceptional efforts and/or achievements in the areas of Leadership, Fellowship, Service, and Overall Program. The Gold Pans intend to applaud a chapter’s successful efforts to live the ideals of Alpha Phi Omega. They are a way of sharing the outstanding accomplishments of our fellow chapters.

Criteria

For each of the four awards, the following lists are guidelines for what will be taken into consideration when determining who will receive the Gold Pans. These lists are not necessarily exclusive; other factors may be considered.

Leadership:

  • Leadership development within the chapter
  • Leadership opportunities throughout the chapter structure
  • Participation in Chapter Program Workshop, Leadership Development Workshop, and Sectional, Regional, and National Conferences
  • Hosting of events, especially interchapter events
  • Good communication within and outside of the chapter
  • Effective, well run meetings
  • Completion of the H. Roe Bartle and other national documentation

Mu Zeta Chapter received the Leadership Gold Pan in 1998, 1999, 2007, & 2008.

Fellowship:

  • Variety of activities promoting fellowship
  • Interchapter activities
  • Planning of all activities
  • Evaluation of all activities
  • Promotion of Brotherhood throughout chapters
  • Membership recruitment practices
  • Pledge program structure

Mu Zeta Chapter received the Fellowship Gold Pan in 1991, 1992, & 1995.

Service:

  • Service performed in all four areas
  • Chapter initiated projects
  • Service done with other non-APO groups, including groups on campus
  • Service with alumni and other chapters
  • Incorporating new projects; balance of old and new
  • Planning of all projects
  • Evaluation of all projects
  • Sharing projects/ideas (i.e. Service Hotline, newsletters, etc.)
  • Challenging number of projects relative to chapter size
  • Chapter wide participation in projects
  • Leadership opportunities through the service program

Mu Zeta Chapter received the Service Gold Pan in 1991, 1993, & 2005.

Overall Program:

  • The criteria from all three of the above categories will be considered along with the following:
    1. Balance between areas of program
    2. New and innovative programs and approaches
    3. Overall effectiveness of program

Mu Zeta Chapter received the Overall Program Gold Pan in 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002.

Chuck Cruz Distinguished Fellowship Award

Presented to an individual who has provided outstanding service to Section 4 in fellowship. The criteria for these awards is a demonstrated exceptional dedication and contribution to the Fellowship programs in Section 4. Dedication and contribution to the programs of Section 4 can be demonstrated through work with and for the chapters of the section.

Mu Zeta Chapter recipients are: Victor Lock (1991), Aris Alcantara (2001), & Jon Tserero (2001).

Joel Holmes and Daniel Updegraff Distinguished Service Award

Presented to an individual who has provided outstanding service to Section 4 in service. The criteria for these awards is a demonstrated exceptional dedication and contribution to the Service programs in Section 4.

Mu Zeta Chapter recipients are: Chris Saguisag (1992) & Voltaire Villanueva (2002)

The Ocho

Created in 2006, the “Ocho” award recognizes active brothers of Section IV who has visited at least 8 chapters within the year between Spring Section conferences. All conferences, APO LEADS, service projects, fellowship events, are included. The chapters visited are not limited to Section IV chapters. If a brother attends the Region conference or any IC event outside of Section IV, these events are included. The Section Awards Chair accepts application forms for this award before Spring conference.

David A. Emery Distinguished Alumni Award

This award is presented to an Alumnus who has provided outstanding service to Alpha Phi Omega at the Sectional level. The criteria for these awards are a demonstrated exceptional dedication and contribution to the Leadership, Fellowship, or Service programs in Section 4. Dedication and contribution to the programs of Section 4 can be demonstrated through work with and for the chapters of the section.
