Multicultural AIDS Awareness Day would not be possible without help from our school, on-campus organizations, off-campus organizations, and generous sponsors.
How YOU can help:
  1. Come table at our event! We would love your presence on our campus and it is a great opportunity to reach out to the SF State community.
  2. Provide monetary or in-kind donations. We are always in need of any safe sex/prevention supplies (e.g., condoms, lube) as well as information packets, art supplies, food donations, etc.
  3. Perform/speak at our event. We entertain the campus with several cultural performances and speakers at MAAD each year. If you are interested in performing or speaking, please contact the MAAD chairs.
  4. Create art to display at Latexhibition. This year, we are holding a Latexhibition workshop where we invite all SFSU students to come and make art using condoms, which will be displayed during MAAD. Student orgs are encouraged to come and compete in a contest to see who can make the best condom art! Latexhibition will be held on March 29.
If you are interested in tabling or performing at, or making a donation to Multicultural AIDS Awareness Day, please contact the MAAD chairs ASAP. If you would like to participate in Latexhibition, please RSVP to us no later than March 26.

About Us

MuZeta

Mu Zeta Chapter, San Francisco State University’s chapter of Alpha Phi Omega will host Multicultural AIDS Awareness Day on April 5th, 2012 at Malcolm X Plaza and the Main Quad, in front of the Cesar Chavez Student Center to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS among students. Organizations of all sizes, serving the San Francisco AIDS community, will participate in this educational and informational event.
For the past fifteen years, the event has fostered grass-roots peer education efforts about HIV/AIDS. The collaboration between university administration, community-based organizations, and Alpha Phi Omega, a National Co-ed Service Fraternity, has continued the ambitious effort to link the critical global issue of HIV/AIDS with San Francisco State University students. As research and treatment for AIDS has advanced and the demographics of the disease have changed, the AIDS Awareness event educates students to be better prepared to deal with the issues of HIV/AIDS and prevention, as well as intervention.
In addition to educating student about the current development of AIDS treatments, the effects of AIDS on the multi-cultural community both on campus and abroad, the event also includes free HIV testing, EROS Latexhibition, and cultural performances, organized by the students partaking in peer leadership role that is, in many cases, linked with service learning.
We hope to engage students and the public about the AIDS pandemic. HIV/AIDS is a global crisis in our community. Together, we can bring AIDS awareness to the forefront of the community. Please join us on April 5th, 2012 to partake in this momentous occasion and help us celebrate 16 years of HIV/AIDS awareness.
